Two River Technology Group, LLC (TRTG) has found that up to 75 percent of corporate PCs have been corrupted by spyware. Using adware (free, downloadable software supported by advertising) or peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing often leads to problems such as spyware installations that can outsmart both firewalls and anti-virus defenses. Spyware is data-collecting software that secretly installs on a system and sends out information when the user is online. It may not do anything malicious, but it is a form of privacy invasion that sometimes works in conjunction with SPAM. Often inadvertently installed with adware or shared files, spyware can also come with legitimate software. TRTG recommends thoroughly reading your software licenses and warranties to understand if you are installing and agreeing to more than you thought.
